It
was only a matter of time for Amazon to produce another awards vehicle after
their first foray into that season led to some wins for Manchester by the Sea and it seems they’ve found their project.
According to Deadline,
Brie Larson will star as Victoria Woodhull in the film of the same name. Larson
will play a woman running for the most prestigious position in the world, the
President of the United States.
Woodhull
was a suffragist who was in fact the first woman to run and be nominated for
the Presidency in 1872, more than 40 years before women themselves had the
right to vote. Larson is a very strong feminist and an incredible actress who
is perfect for a role of this nature. Larson has had a nice smattering of roles
in all different genres since picking up the Oscar for her leading role in Room. Since then she’s starred in Ben
Wheatley’s shoot-em-up action film, Free
Fire and dabbled in the blockbuster scene with a role in the recent, Kong: Skull Island. I’m excited to see
what her and Amazon can do with this story, though I’m interested to see who they
get to direct.
Larson
has a busy slate ahead of her though with the upcoming drama, The Glass Castle which will reunite her
with Destin Daniel Cretton who directed her breakout role in Short Term 12. Also, she plans to make
her directorial debut with a comedy titled Unicorn
Store in which she’ll also star alongside acting veterans Samuel L. Jackson
and Joan Cusack. Oh yeah, and she has that little role in Avengers: Infinity War as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel coming
right before her own solo movie in 2019.
