Can’t
say you didn’t see this coming. Just a week after the announcement of Sony
producing a Venom movie for the
studio, Collider
is reporting that the film will be rated-R and jump start their own cinematic
universe revolving around the Spider-Man characters. Sony and Marvel Studios
currently have a deal in which Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can appear on screen in
MCU films but Sony is capitalizing on their catalog of characters they have
rights to use which is upwards of 900 Marvel characters.
This
announcement for Venom comes hot on
the heels of the studio announcing the writing of a script for a movie
following fellow Spider-Man characters, Black Cat and Silver Sable which will
be written by Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok,
Thor: The Dark World). Venom will be written by Dante Harper (Alien: Covenant) and will look to take
advantage of the recent wave of rated-R comic book movie, Deadpool and Logan. It’s
important to note that Sony’s new Marvel Universe will NOT be connected with
any of the MCU movies.
Venom seems like a great movie to start
off the new Sony Marvel Universe but what do you guys? Also, who do you think
could portray Venom in the 2018 film? Comment below and let us know!
