It
should be no surprise that with the expanding landscape of television that
networks that you’d never expect to release scripted content would do so but at
last, Discovery has joined the fray. According to Deadline,
Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany will star in an anthology series titled, Manhunt: Unabomber. The show will depict
the true story about the FBI’s hunt for the Unabomber, the deadliest serial
bomber in history.
Sam
Worthington will play head FBI agent, Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald who was the newest
member of the Unabom Task Force who faced rough treatment for trying to take a
different approach of taking down the Unabomber aka Ted Kaczynski. Paul Bettany
will play Kaczynski, who was eventually captured by Fitzgerald in 1995,
seventeen years after his first bombing. Brian d’Arcy James, Keisha
Castle-Hughes, Mark Duplass, Elizabeth Reaser and Rebecca Henderson round out
the cast for the first season. This isn’t the first series the channel has
broadcast yet its second as their miniseries, Harley and the Davidsons was broadcast last year.
Worthington
can be seen in theaters now in The Shack
and is set to reprise his role as Jake Sully in the Avatar franchise (whenever that starts up again). Bettany is
currently filming Avengers: Infinity War
in which he’ll reprise his role as Vision but is also in production for a drama
titled Official Secrets also starring
Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins and Martin Freeman. Manhunt: Unabomber premieres on August 1st at 9 PM with
a two-hour episode.
