After
a bidding war, it seems that Sony Pictures has emerged the winner for a new
project titled Marian, starring
Margot Robbie, per Collider.
The project is being described as a reimagining of the story of Robin Hood with
a female in the lead, with Robbie inhabiting the role.
Robbie
will play Maid Marian who sees Robin Hood die before her own eyes and decides
to don the Robin Hood mantle herself and being the heroine that her town needs.
The film is being described as a darker, more grim interpretation of the
property in the same vein as a movie like Braveheart.
We’ve heard the same sort of description with the upcoming Robin Hood starring Taron Egerton and Ridley Scott’s version
starring Russell Crowe. With an actress taking over the title role and an
actress of Robbie’s caliber, it sure is a promising project going forward.
Robbie
is currently filming the Tonya Harding biopic titled, I, Tonya and is also developing the Harley Quinn-spinoff, Gotham City Sirens that will bring together
female characters from the DC Universe. David Ayer, who previously directed her
in Suicide Squad will also direct the
female-centric ensemble film. Robbie will be seen next in Goodbye, Christopher Robin alongside Domhnall Gleeson, one of my
most anticipated films of 2017.
