With
so many actors and actresses joining cinematic universes and franchises left
and right, it’s hard to believe that an actor like Brad Pitt hasn’t gotten on
board a bigger tentpole franchise. It seems that he might’ve thought he had his
blockbuster with the sci-fi film, World
War Z, but due to production and scheduling problems, the movie didn’t turn
out as the incredibly big success that maybe he would’ve hoped for. According
to Collider,
it seems Pitt actually did have his eye on something in the comic book lore
recently as there were discussions by the actor and Fox for Pitt to play Cable
in the upcoming, Deadpool 2.
Deadpool 2 is the follow-up to the
mega-successful R-rated superhero flick that followed the Marvel character,
Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds. There have been rumors for months of who
could possibly play the role of Cable with names like Kyle Chandler and Pierce
Brosnan rumored early on, followed by Michael Shannon and Stranger Things’ David Harbour as recently as a week ago. Pitt
would certainly be a major get for the studio and a massive star as he’s a
recognizable name and has merit to his talents as he’s been nominated for three
Academy Awards for acting. Pitt has been focusing on his producing much more in
recent years though winning an Oscar for producing Best Picture winner, 12 Years a Slave. He also produced other
Best Picture nominees The Big Short
and Moneyball as well as acted as an
Executive Producer for the most recent Best Picture winner, Moonlight.
Sources
say that the final decision on the role of Cable will be made “soon” but who
knows when that’ll be. We did get some sort of casting news for the film
recently though as Atlanta breakout
star, Zazie Beets was cast as Domino. David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) is set to take over for Tim Miller for
directing duties for the sequel that is currently scheduled to be released
early next year.
Pitt
will be seen next on screen in the Netflix movie, War Machine. He’s also set to star in the sci-fi film, Ad Astra and is trying to get World War Z 2 off the ground with frequent
collaborator, David Fincher. With a schedule that busy it appears unlikely that
he’ll appear in Deadpool 2 but we
shall see in the coming weeks when Cable is officially cast.
