One
of the most fascinating directors in Hollywood today is one that has becoming
fresh in people’s minds is Lenny Abrahamson (Room, Frank). The Oscar-nominated director to helped Brie Larson
achieve an Academy Award for Room has
lined him his next project. According to Deadline,
Abrahamson will direct Burning Rainbow
Farm based on the book of the same name from Dean Kuiper.
Burning Rainbow Farm follows life
partners Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm who ran a serene farm which was
pot-friendly. They had annual music and weed festivals which led them to become
leaders in the movement towards marijuana legalization in Michigan in the
1990s. This came with many problems though including a tragic and fatal
accident where a teen attendee crashed his car and died at one of the
festivals. This led to a raid and the couple were charged with a possession of
a firearm and cultivating 200 marijuana plants. The event led to a downward
spiral for the couple that also included a standoff with police that lasted
five-days.
In
terms of story, I am incredibly intrigued to see this film especially with
Abrahamson attached. I still have not seen Room
but we know that the director can get great performances out of his actors and Frank was one of the most underrated
films of the decade thus far, in my opinion. He worked with great talents in
that movie as well like Domhnall Gleeson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael
Fassbender, who I’m hoping he can reunite with for this project.
As
soon as more news for the film is released like casting news or start on
production, we’ll let you know here at Cinema Wave!
